A complete redesign of a neglected south-facing back garden. Reclaimed brick and york stone slabs reflect the heritage of the listed property while lush planting and a hidden seating area provide visual intrigue to complement the sheltered dining area beneath trailing climbers.

Design to allow plenty of room to entertain and provide maximum space for a riot of plants. The clients are keen gardeners and required colour, structure and visual interest all year round.

The brief was to transform a small front garden in a sunny residential street from a patch of tangled weeds and rubble left by builders into a striking bed, filled with grasses and flowers that requires almost no maintenance and does not need watering.

» Hampshire cottage garden

A multi-purpose garden behind a brick and flint cottage. Space had to be provided for two cars, the inclusion of a large, listed greenhouse, the ability to entertain in the evening and at weekends, room for three small children to play and still provide striking planting that would thrive on chalky soil for the clients who are keen gardeners.
